Is There Such A Thing As “Too Evil”?

January 30, 2013 — 6 Comments

One of the most wicked men in all of the Bible was a man by the name of Manasseh. The Bible says 13 times that Manasseh made the children of Israel to sin. How would you like to be known in the Bible for all of the times that you made a nation sin? If you don’t believe how bad this guy was, then just listen to what this guy did. (2 Chronicles 33:1-13)

This man worshipped devils in the temple! (2 Chronicles 33:3-5) He offered his own children as burnt sacrifices to his gods. He also “used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.” (2 Chronicles 33:6) It sounds like Manasseh was just pure evil to his core. You might know some people that remind you of this dude.

And then it goes on to say in verse 10 that “the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.” So then the Lord had to try something else. In verse 11 it says, “the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.” (fetters are like chains, I know you were wondering)

Then this is where it gets good! Verses 12 and 13 tell us that “when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. And prayed unto him” You would think that the Lord wouldn’t hear him, right? Well, you’re wrong.

Our God is so good that it tells us “he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.”

Manasseh could have been stubborn and thought he could get out of all of that mess on his own. But even as wicked as a man that he was, he humbled himself, and knew that he had to rely on God. He cried out to God, and the Lord heard him.

If God will take a wretched sinner like that, wash all of his past away, and sit him on the throne… He’ll do the same exact thing for you. There are only two things you have to do: 1) Humble yourself and 2) Pray and ask for God’s help.

Where would you rate your relationship with God on a scale of 1 to 10? Mine was a 1 for far too long. If you answered something similar, then the first thing you can do is start coming to church on a regular basis and let God start talking to you. If you don’t know what salvation is, then that needs to be your first step.
